Importance Of Installing Outdoor Video Surveillance Correctly

By Grace Rivas

Every building should have outdoor video surveillance installed as a security measure to deter thieves and other risks that may be in the area. They also assist in storing and providing evidence to prove that a certain act happened during in an investigation. These cameras are quite easy to install and to use as well. However, you should ensure that you do the installation correctly, or if you are hiring someone, get a professional who can deliver good services.

They should be well experienced in such matters thus have done several other similar projects before that. Ask you friends and relatives to connect you to those who installed their cameras for them if you like the kind of job that was done. You can also ask the suppliers of such equipment to provide an expert to do the installation for you in instances where you are not able to do it yourself.

Identify a convenient location where the camera should be fixed. You should preferably find a spot under the roof just where it meets the walls. Such a spot should not be easily visible to predators or attackers as they could easily interfere with the equipment. Make sure that it is not exposed to harsh environmental factors like direct sunlight or water which may damage it.

Place it in a place where there are no huge trees or buildings obstructing it from its view. This is important so that you can capture any movements from as far as possible. I should be fixed steadily thus prevent any unnecessary movements that can result into blurred images and videos. These are very unreliable.

Make sure that you buy a camera that can zoom automatically so that it can capture objects from a further distance than normal cameras. It should be sensitive to objects and flexible enough to follow them as they change direction and position. This 360-degree feature enables it to capture a larger radius of the surrounding.

If you are installing a wired camera, you need to fix wires in a safe way to prevent them from getting spoilt. The best thing to do is to nail them on wooden boards then attach them to the walls appropriately. This will also ensure that you do not cause damage to your walls by drilling many holes into them. If you happen to have a space between the roof and the walls, then you can use that space to pass the cables from inside the house.

Make sure that you have a reliable network connection in case you are using wireless cameras. Choose a good service provider that provides a comprehensive package that can support such systems. Purchase the relevant devices that are required to work with the camera, like screen monitors and storage devices.

Find a safe place to store all the findings from outdoor video surveillance. Password protect all your equipment so that very few people have access to the footage. This will prevent intruders from interfering with it thus destroying potentially useful information.
