For a lot of people it can be hard to keep glasses in the best condition. Even if you carefully put them away from dust on the shelf and in the case it is still likely at some point they will get damaged. This is why it helps to know a few methods of basic scratched glasses lens repair.

There are a number of methods online to help with this. It should be made clear that you need to carefully check how these methods work. Ideally you ought to see a demonstration online before you attempt to do it yourself. If you are in any doubt talk to your optician.

With glass lenses you may not necessarily need to go to the optician to get them repaired. One method is to use toothpaste. However it is important to not use any form of toothpaste. Avoid any gel based toothpastes or ones that contain whitening agents. This reason that this is important is that the gel or the whitening agents will end up further damaging your glasses.

The method is very simple. You use a cotton swab to smear a bit of toothpaste onto the lens. You then leave it for approximately five minutes in order for the removal of the scratch to take effect. Once you do this you then need to clean off the toothpaste. This needs to be done thoroughly so you do not end up with toothpaste smears on your lenses that need to be cleaned up as well.

Once the toothpaste has been cleaned off you should then dry off your glasses. This ought to be done with a non abrasive towel. You can then clean your lenses as usual using your usual cloth so that not only are your lenses scratch free but they are also properly clean as well.

It should be noted that this method is only appropriate for glass and not plastic lenses. With plastic lenses you should use a proper plastic cleaner. You can use this in the same way as the toothpaste method on a glass surface. As with the glass method you need to leave the cleaner to settle before thoroughly wiping it off.

With plastic lenses you should use a plastic cleaner. These are available from hardware stores and the assistant should give you advice on the appropriate brand. The problem with using toothpaste on plastic is that it will damage the surface. As with the toothpaste method you should carefully smear the plastic cleaner on the surface, leave it for a while and then clean it off. You then need to remove all the cleaner and then polish it using your usual glasses cleaning cloth. This should then mean the scratch has been cleared off and that the surface will also be clean.

You can find out more about places that offer scratched glasses lens repair by looking online in order to look at what is available in your local area and what is convenient for you to get to in your local area. Furthermore you can get feedback from people who have used different cleaning methods as well as video demonstrations to make it easier to do the repair work yourself.
