The Impact of Skin Hydration on the Aging Process

By Andrea Hamilton

When folks consider the causes behind their wrinkles, they regularly think about factors like sun damage or decreasing collagen levels. While these reasons are actually to blame for their good share of wrinkles, the fact is that there is no one single cause which isn't only commoner, but is also overlooked far too often. This is dehydration.

We have to understand that without correct skin hydration, not only will our body struggle to regenerate the proteins and enzymes relevant to maintain a younger appearance. But the truth that our skin is dried out can essentially make the damaging effects of dehydration far more tangible.

While water possibly won't be immediately answerable for filling in our wrinkles, it's responsible for regulating many of the processes which our skin is dependent on to stay firm and full.

In one case, for the body to process the proteins that we eat and ultimately create new collagen, our body will need to first be correctly hydrated. Since water is necessary for plenty of other processes across the body as well which are far more essential to our survival than a young looking complexion, a failing to drink enough volume of water each day will basically show up in our face first.

Adequate skin hydration is also important when we talk about the absorption of topical products which we may use so we can battle the symptoms of ageing. This is why it is always counseled that you apply a base layer of moisturiser before applying any other products, including your sunscreen or makeup. Since these products can often rob our skin of moisture throughout the day, it is also commended that you apply a fresh layer of moisturizer at the day's close once all other products have been removed from your skin.
