Various Categories Of Auditorium Seating

By Jerri Perry

Your enjoyment, ticket price and exposure on a theater would depend on the type of seats you have chosen. The pattern of seats on certain theaters would be dependent on the shape and the size of such arenas. Small arenas might have poor seating arrangement while larger arenas would have a better seat outline. It however is important to know that irrespective of the shape and size of certain theaters, each arena would have certain auditorium seating charts which would require you to choose the sort of seats to go for.

Orchestra is the best level of auditorium seating where the proscenium arch is featured. Seats within the orchestra are grouped by nearness and visual axis. Prime orchestra seats are the best seats placed at the front area, followed by side orchestra seats and the rear seats locks the arrangement at the back of the orchestra level. These can be fold-up chairs, fixed seats or even upholstered chairs.

The orchestra section is enclosed by the box seats. These seats are divided using curtains or walls. In most theaters, the box chairs are placed on a raised podium to allow each person within the box level to have complete exposure to the performers and their performing. The audience accommodating these seats pays cheaper as compared to the ones in the orchestra.

At the back and upper section of box seats come the mezzanine seats. Seats at this section are also separated into various divisions, front center section being at the forefront to give the viewers a better coverage to the stage area. Some seats here are placed in the right and left sides of the walls. Buying a ticket for these chairs is cheaper but you would not be able to see the arena completely.

Gallery seats are placed at the top and last division within a theater. The audience in the gallery seats is not exposed to complete view of the stage though their tickets are offered at lower prices. When buying the gallery chairs, it is always essential to remember that the audience here is barely exposed to a partial view of the stage.

A thrust stage would need a different type of seat arrangement that is mostly three-on the sides approach. To help people see properly the seats here would be also raked together. The major seats used in thrust stages are the upholstered, retractable and the fixed.

Circular arenas do not have the same seat arrangement as other arenas. This is because most of chairs here would be placed on a circular style while the theater would be at a place higher than the chairs to ensure spectators would see the stage better. Chairs used in a circular arena would rely on the designer and the stage owner.

Unless you find yourself seated on the auditorium seating watching a play, you may never have the assurance that you have chosen the right seat. Consequently, it is always essential to consider buying the right seat ticket which would allow you to see everything that would go on the stage. You need to research widely to know how the seats in the potential arena are and which is offers the best value to the viewers.
