What Is A Polarized Gascan

By Jerri Perry

In a nutshell, the polarized gascan are sunglasses that use special kind of polarized lenses. It does not only eliminate the unwanted glare and its detrimental effects, but it also provides enhanced protection for the eyes. What makes these sunglasses different from standard and non polarized ones are basically on how they treat the light waves.

This type of eye wear uses Plutonite lenses, a polycarbonate lens of special kind. By design, these lenses blocks both UV A and UV B from passing through the lens and is also the lightest material used in the manufacturing of lens. Aside from the said quality, these lenses are known for its low thermal conduction. This means that it heats up relatively slower and are less likely to fog. Such properties make it best suited for eye wear.

The light in the surroundings travel in different and sometimes scattered directions. What our eyes use to see are vertical light waves. Meanwhile, horizontal light waves are what comprises glare. Glare happens when light is reflected by a flat, shiny horizontal surface of an object.

Regular lenses merely filters light, whether it is horizontal or vertical. This minimizes the effect of glare but does not necessarily eliminate it. However, since vertical light is also filtered, visual acuity is also affected and is therefore sacrificed. This is why regular lenses have become a challenge for eye wear manufacturers.

However, polarized lenses use filters of special kind. The material allows vertical light waves to pass through. This gives its wearer a much clearer view. Meanwhile, horizontal light is blocked. As a result, the glare is also eliminated.

Since the flat and shiny water surface can add to the glare, people who are involved with water sports are best advised to use these accessories for best performance. The water surface polarizes the light waves partially through horizontal reflection. With these eye wear, glare is eliminated while the water appears to be more transparent allowing clearer view of what is below the surface. Aside from that, because of the XYZ Optics technology that helps maintain clarity of sight at any angle, the peripheral view is not sacrificed.

While these sunglasses are generally useful, there are cases wherein they are not supposed to be used. For example, skiing atop icy surfaces requires you to be careful on patches of ice which you can easily identify because they produce more glare than snow. Since these sunglasses filters glare, it is harder to check these patches.

Also, viewing images on an LCD screen is affected when using these sunglasses. Hence, they are not recommended for use by people who rely on equipments that uses LCD displays such as navigation equipments used by pilots and boaters. Fortunately, some manufacturers have already fixed this issue on the product.

The manufacturing process involved in the creation of the specialized lenses used for the product entails the use of different technologies. For the polarized gascan lenses, liquid infusion technology is used. This makes it possible for the filter to bond at molecular level. Two of the lenses are cut from a single shield of lens that has a special contour. These are then attached to a frame which is designed to maintain the original continuous contour. The frame itself is lightweight and is also stress resistant. To give reliable impact protection to the eye, the lens itself was subjected to impact test and shows to meet the ANSI Z87.1 standards.
